The graves, at the edge of the Bush, are of Henry Phillips the present owners Great Great Grandfather. The Carriage renovation started with “5 mins of madness” to renovate the old railway goods/workshop truck found on Trade Me January 2019, to create a unique place to escape to. With inspiration from The Orient Express, some Scandinavian influence and scouring Pinterest, The Carriage was slowly renovated. It was in a sad state with lots of flaking paint covering up old wooden walls, which were painstakingly sanded back by our trusty builder and team. Clearing and planting around The Carriage is a work in progress and will provide privacy. The Carriage is situated at the point where the Rockwood stream meets the Boundary stream, forming the start of the Hororata River on the farm. This location provides a warm, sunny sight with amazing views to Mt Hutt as well as a swimming hole in the Hororata River behind The Carriage. You can hear the gentle flow of the water over the rocks as you sip your cool drink in the summer heat, or hot chocolate in the winter months. Solar powered, The Carriage now boasts a double bedroom with an ensuite, kitchen with dishwasher and fridge, double bed with a single bunk above, sitting area with a Little Sparky wood burning stove and a bathroom and washhouse, gas heated water and oven. There is a huge deck at the front with a covered outside dining area with the views to Mt Hutt. While you are private we are only 700 metres away at the Homestead should you have any problems or questions. The bird-life surrounding The Carriage is incredible. Bellbirds, wood-pigeons, fantails and kingfishers are regular visitors. The bushwalk on the property takes you through 100 acres of native bush, and the beautiful woodland garden of the nearby, historical Rockwood homestead is a delight to explore In the summer, enjoy a dip in the swimming holes up and down the river... In the winter, cosy up and tuck yourself away for a few days - maybe even enjoying some snowfall while you're there!
