Harper Campsite

A campsite close to the shore of Lake Coleridge is available near the tiny settlement of Harper Village at the inland head of the lake.

To find it, drive through Harper Village and over the bridge across the Harper Canal, then turn left down towards Lake Coleridge. You’ll find the campsite down this road on the left.

The sheltered campsite includes tap water (untreated well water) and an environmental toilet.  With no other services or shops in Harper Village users need to be self-sufficient.

It is close to easy access to the lake for launching boats and areas for lake and river fishing (information about fishing seasons is published on the Fish & Game website).

The campsite is about one hour’s drive from Windwhistle or Rakaia Gorge, with over half the journey on gravel road.

The camping facility has been built by Manawa Energy (formerly known as Trustpower) who operate the Lake Coleridge Power Station, in collaboration with Selwyn District Council and the Department of Conservation.

To use the campground:

There is no charge to use the campsite but a maximum stay of two weeks applies. Please treat the camp site and your fellow campers with respect.
