RockRidge High Country Walk

RockRidge High Country Walk

An experience like no other!
RockRidge boasts 31 km of challenging terrains and breathtaking vistas over the Canterbury plains, across its crystal lakes and braided riverbeds, and skywards to the peaks of the Southern Alps. Its untamed beauty is just waiting to be explored.

This stunning, glacier-formed purpose-built track is opening to the public for the very first time in 2026 thanks to the passion and generosity of two local families. The Harpers and the McElreas are now welcoming explorers to one of New Zealand’s greatest and most unforgettable walks as it unfolds over their two high-country farms.

The limited first season at RockRidge is now open for bookings between the 2nd of February and the 31st of May 2026, with the exclusive new track open to just 10 people at a time. This two night, all-inclusive hike through the little-explored Windwhistle area transcends the typical walk-and-hut itinerary with an immersive, curated experience. Pampered guests are treated to world-class food, outstanding accommodation, and authentic high-country hospitality.

With every detail taken care of, RockRidge offers the perfect balance of retreat and adventure, with guests revelling in the camaraderie and spirit of the high country, and swapping stories under the stars. So much more than just a hike, RockRidge is an intergenerational legacy sure to leave a lasting imprint on each adventurer.

  • $895 per person includes 2-nights accommodation, fully catered at Birchview homestead and Quartz Hill Quarters.

RockRidge is open for walking from February to May 2026. Season two opening soon for booking, October 2026 to May 2027

REQUIRING:
  • Moderate Fitness
  • Warm clothing
  • Sturdy footwear

Finding RockRidge
Just north of Windwhistle, turn onto Washpen Road (a gravel road) and 400m along you will see a Washpen Falls sign. Follow the farm road through paddocks until you reach an old woodshed where you can park and will find information about the walk. Here you will find Birchview homestead, where you drive in and meet the RockRidge team for your briefing.
